Spring Showers
October 9, 2024
Welcome to Day 8 of promoting my next release - Time for Love. I’ve been working on this collection for about four years. The romantic collection has twenty short stories - ten about how a couple got engaged and ten about how a couple met. The story I’m going to talk about today is Spring Showers, a short story taking place on the First Day of Spring 1999.
Cassie has given up on the idea of love, despite her young age. Hunter is still relatively new to Chicago and doesn’t know the train schedules. When they are both standing in the rain and waiting for the next train, she offers to share her big golf umbrella. What happens next? You’ll have to read the 4th story in the collection to find out.
How does this story relate to other stories in the gagengirl universe?
Cassie was in the first draft of the first novel I finished. The first draft had the characters in high school, because I was in high school. By the time I finished it, the characters had all graduated college and she was no longer in it. When I decided that Spring Showers would be set in Chicago, I picked her to be the lead character. I was curious how she found her happy ending.
Cassie and her friends hang out at Benson’s Ice Cream Parlor, which has previously appeared in Just a Kiss. The ice cream parlor is run by A Time for Love’s Eric Donnelly’s family. He is cousins with Cassie’s best friend Jenny.
What can you share about Cassie?
I felt bad about Cassie being pushed out of her original story. So I used that as part of her backstory. She felt “pushed out of the story” by her old high school friends. So now she only hangs out with her best friend Jenny and her brothers and their families. She’s given up on the idea of finding true love.
And what can you share about Hunter?
Hunter is from San Diego. He moved to Chicago for school, but hated the weather. But a really good job offer convinced him to stay. If not for that job offer, would he have found his soulmate?
Is there anything else you’d like to share about this story?
It’s a romance, the story of how Cassie and Hunter met. Because of finding a future, she’s able to let go of the past.
Do you know which story you’ll tell us about tomorrow?
Yes. Tomorrow’s story is Steak & Potatoes.
